Emily Wolverton

Born in Plymouth, MN

Lives & works in Winnipeg, MB

Materiality, process, function and form; close to the heart of many potters. These words encapsulate what continues to draw Emily, of Wolverton Ceramics, to the art of ceramics.

She is particularly drawn to techniques in which an amount of control is released to process. Previously working in high fire gas, soda and wood kilns, she has recently made the shift to a mid-fire in an electric kiln. Her current series is developing functional work that enhances the mundane of the everyday. The glazes that she is using and developing are reminiscent of her love of wood and gas firing. While they do not mimic the effect of these firings they are a nod toward these formative techniques in her practice.
